Default Origin of RE Badges

I bought the following two badges with others at auction recently and am trying to find info for them.
One is for RE Records not sure if it may have been a brooch, but its make up would make this seem unlikely, not sure if there has ever been a military unit for RE Records. it has a 10 flame grenade.
The other i'm not sure but may be Indian mess badge but again, I have found a facimile of it on the Empire to Commonwealth Project website under Ron Marsden's Royal Engineers Engravings/Letterheads.

The second one certainly looks, by the style and construction, as if it was locally made in India, so quite possibly a mess servants or 'followers' badge, but I know nothing about the RE per se, so no ideas on the other one.
