Not badge related, but thought I would post this anyway. I have never seen an SD tunic such as this, with inset breast pockets, patch skirt pockets, and an eight button fly. Perhaps something made for a foreign army?

One of the 1930's pre- Battledress trial patterns?(which doesn't explain why it would be dated 1945).

It seems to show half the buttonholes are made with green thread, the other half with grey thread so perhaps these were added at a later time? The pockets are a bit unusual though there are some online images with similar unpleated breast pockts.

It does appear that the button holes are added. Note that the top hole is actually unfinished! The pockets are indeed a mystery.

Are the breast pockets internal?
Or have external ones been removed or just not been applied?
The presence of buttons implies internal pockets.

Just a tailor's "practice" garment?

Could be modified for film work. There are a lot of mess about tunics out there.

I too think that it has probably been altered for theatrical or cinematic use. I have had a fair few uniform tunics that have come from theatrical costumiers stock over the years and they have all had alterations.

One O.S.D. tunic had staybrite W.R.A.C. buttons but retained the original tailors's label which had the officer's surname and intitials, the date of manufacture (1945) and the fact that he served with the Indian Army. On researching him he had served with the 12th Frontier Force Rifles and had been captured at Singapore.

I must assume that would not have a broad arrow since it never was offered for government inspection and acceptance?

I would assume so as well. I agree that it is some sort of theatrical Frankentunic for who knows what.
