Unknown Colonial Badge ID Pls.

African Body Guard - Hyderabad States Forces - depending on its size its either a cap badge or a collar. In 1870 the unit was re-designated as the African Cavalry Guards although reverted to the African Body Guard in 1931 - so I think your badge AGC can be dated to before 1931. Tim

Absolutely right Tim.
The badge is shown in McClenaghan and Head's two-volume magnum opus. The ACG stands for African Cavalry Guard which was its designation in 1870 when it was a 220-man unit. |
