Lothian and Borders Warrant badge/wallet?
While looking up different police force warrant badges/wallets, I have come across this Lothian and Borders one several times. But is it genuine? I ask because on one particular site the wallet and badge is shown, with the author stating 'a reliable source' told them that the CID may used them in the 90's, but then goes on to say they knew 'a couple of Gents from England' who had bought similar items from Jeeves, which they used to sell on ebay, which thus hinting the badge etc could be fake.
I can't see Jeeves knocking out false Police id to 'a couple of gents' myself, They (Jeeves) usually deal with forces only. So I think the badge etc is genuine, unless made as film props? But I don't think they were. All views welcome. billyh |

I assume they mean Gieves (aka Gieves and Hawkes) rather than Jeeves ?

Perhaps a red herring, but there is a “Jeeves the Jewellers” in Crosby, Liverpool that has been in business for 75 plus years and I believe made and sold sweetheart brooches at one time.

"Jeeves the Jewellers" of Waterloo, Liverpool were indeed the suppliers of these badges. They still exist although they are no longer based in Waterloo/Crosby. Jeeves Ltd., have never sold any of their merchandise on eBay. They supply to police forces/local authorities direct and do not sell to the public. Any surpluses of Lothian & Borders Police insignia (now obsolete) have come from members of the former force or from uniform surplus dealers who have bought obsolete stock from Police Scotland. As an aside, Jeeves do not manufacture badges (although their name is often seen on the reverse), they have these made by a third party. They then retail to local authorities/police either individually or fitted to leather wallets.

Thanks for clearing that up Dave. Interesting to know Jeeves don't make the badges themselves.
Re the bottom blank on the badge. Was this for the collar no. or name/rank? |

Dave and Billy,
Thank you, brought back memories. I must have passed the Jeeves shop in South Road many hundreds of times as I lived in Waterloo throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Tim
