SAS Wings
Hi Gentlemen,
a question on behalf of a fellow collector. Could you enlight us about the following SAS wings? Genuine or fantasy? What does the green background correspond to? Cheers, Phil http://img1.imagilive.com/0916/IMG_20160912_213228.jpg http://img1.imagilive.com/0916/IMG_20160912_213257.jpg http://img1.imagilive.com/0916/IMG_2..._2134002eb.jpg |

SAS
Fantasy. Made during the 1980's. 2 suggestions for the green - the first being that it was supposed to be a Rhodesian SAS wing (the manufacturers/fakers not being aware the Rhodies wore a very diff pattern), or secondly that it was based on a picture (Plate 1, actually) in Bragg & Turners book "Parachute wings of the world" which showed "SAS Current issue" as having a green backing (Item 11).
Widely available at the time in places such as Charing Cross Collectors Market, but now not as frequently seen. Ian H |
