3rd Carabiniers
Hi, I came across a large number of Carbs stay bright badges, two of them were J R Gaunt London badges. They both have their r/h carbine damaged, tip missing. None of the other badges all J R Gaunt B'ham had the same damage, is this just bad luck or was it a fault with the badges

Not sure if these tips breaking off is exactly a well known/accepted fault with these Carbs Badge, but I have seen both the bimetal and anodised types with carbine tips missing, so I imagine its fairly common. Its a vulnerable point on the badge, similar to the lance tips on many lancer badges for example, which often can be found broken off. Rob

Have a look at the end of the shortened carbine. If it is bare aluminium it has been broken off post manufacture but if the same silver colour as the rest of the badge then it was a manufacturing issue. Regards Chris |

My dad did his National Service with the 3rd Carbs. I remember him telling me that the ends of the rifles frequently snapped off.

I suppose that was the reason they ended up with carbines then... Regards Chris |

Hi, Thanks for the replies. They are broken, just seemed strange they were the only ones out of about 20, thanks again, Mike
