war dept, west/north riding & specials
Good day. Latest acquisitions for viewing & comments. Nothing spectacular, rare or over £25 (medal) I believe the '1914' stamp on the button hole attachment of the Nottinghamshire special badge is the date of manufacture, and was wondering if the '1932' stamp on the North Riding, is also the date of manufacture?

The number on the North Riding is a control number and that on the Notts. is the year of issue/manufacture.

The number on the back of my North Riding is 418. Its of a standard design worn during the 2nd WW (and later). So, if the number was meant to represent the year of manufacture they would all have more or less the same years shown (1939 to 1945). All those I've seen have random numbers. This suggests that they are control numbers as opposed to years of manufacture. With regard to Nottinghamshire, all those I've seen, including my own, have the same year shown, 1914. Which suggests a year of manufacture. Dave. |

I am also aware that some consider them to be unique issue numbers, but that doesnt seem to be the case. regards
