Default Canadian Airborne Forces

I thought I would start this forum off with a post about Canadian Airborne Forces insignia. Below is some insignia I have in my collection and thought they may be of interest.

Garry, thanks for posting these. The Canadian Airborne is my personal favourite and I proudly wore my Canadian wings on my chest.I look forward to seeing more.

The bad news...
The Capbadge is a repro. The tell tale even without feeling the badge is the chute, The faint back of the chute in your badges case. It should be bold and unmistakingly the rear edge of the canopy. Still a nice display filler.

The WWll wing... Mmmmn a well known fantasy piece baring little resemblance to original WWll wings.

Without examination of the threads used the Battalion Shoulder title may be genuine as numerous tailors made versions for the best BD. If you got it at the same place as the previous 2 then probably repro.

The Airborne title actually looks good. However If its on anything other than Dark Green Melton cloth its repro.

I'll show you the back of the ones in question. I can confirm that the airborne title is on dark green cloth, but forgive my ignorance, I don't know what 'Melton green cloth' is.

The thing that gives these post war British made EM badges away as incorrect is that they are made in the style (and usually size) of the officer's badge. Notice the difference in the lower feathers compared to an enlisted man's badge... very different which makes these fakes so easy to spot. No matter if the badge is made in brass, copper, bronze, silver, has a slider or lugs, if it is made in the style of the officer's badge but is being sold as an EM badge then it's not original. It's as simple as that. Only the multi piece officer's badge will be made in that style.

Default Badges Used by Canadians

These four parachute wings were all taken off a Canadian SSF Smock in CFB Petawawa in 1986. I rescued them from the tailor shop as they make a nice cross section of what could be worn on one uniform.

Here is my collection of 1 Canadian Parachute Battalion badges.
The officers' cap badge is plated, but what is interesting is the ORs brass badge has the stamped lugs.
