Guards, Great War, cloth shoulder and battalion
Anoraks will wish to know that MHS Bull. 242 arrived today has an article, colour illustrated, of Guards idents during our period.
I do not have the expertise to critique it, but the photos. speak for themselves. If this is your scene, recommended. |

the article says that all 4 battalions of CG had cloth titles, I am not happy with this.

I have found the GWF thread which dealt with this and the broad consensus is that CG wore two styles of shoulder title in the Great War: started with the normal CG and rose in GM, then c. 1916 wore the all-drab worsted version of this perhaps in some units, but did not wear white on scarlet worsted square-end titles Coldstream Guards at any time during the war.
Firm evidence to the contrary would be most welcome. |
