Anchor 'NL' button
I would welcome comments leading to a positive ID of this button. I am excluding Northern Lighthouses, for various reasons.
There is no crown and I believe the anchor would be unfouled (if that is correct word). Furthermore, button is of Canadian manufacture (SCULLY. MONTREAL). Metal is gilt copper GTB |

Hi GTB,
Sorry, I cannot help as I have never seen them identified. best regards, PS. Have you researched Newfoundland Lighthouses? Last edited by btns; 12-05-19 at 11:30 AM. Reason: added suggestion |

Thanks btns and mike vee
I haven't searched further under lighthouses as I don't think it is a Lighthouses button considering my button's anchor is fouled. I had thought of Navy League but but am still floundering. My current train of thought is that the 'L' may signify Line(s) GTB |

Was bored and did a bit of digging around.
The Navy League of Canada was not , then or now , "a military organization" . It was established in 1895 and predates the Royal Canadian Navy by 15 years. So , is it possible that they did not initially have a crown on their badge/button ? I found a photo of their logo/emblem which I assume the top is 'cropped' but it is very similar to the button in post 1. I could be completely wrong but it may be worth a bit more research. |
