Default Boer War, but what unit?

Hi all

I've had this badge for some years now and would love to work out which unit it might be for.

My reason for suggesting that it is Boer War is because the brass loops are identical to another badge I have that is definitely from this period.

I looked at list of irregular units in L.L. Gordon's British Battles & Medals and got completely lost in the number of outfits.

Two likely contenders are: Cameron's Scouts & Clifford's Scouts but there are no doubt others that I've missed! Or is it "S C"???

Ideas? Oh, and it's about 22mm from top to bottom.

Roy is the man to ask about these Boer War raised units. I understand that he has quite a collection of them.

Many thanks gents! It has languished unloved in a box for some time and it was only when I looked at the way it was made (hand cut, ring loops) that I felt if must be from the period.

Roy, if you are reading this I would love to have your input!

Sailor's Company? How too wonderful for words!

Dum Dum......

My Holy Grail

It is just like a badge that I have been searching for over the last 30 years..... The only thing is it's toooooo small..... The badge I am looking for is 2 inches tall by 1 1/4 inch wide in size......

"C" over the letter "S".....

Privately made in Australia......

I have a photo but cannot find it right now....

Have not mentioned the name of the unit on purpose until I can confirm.....

Mike

That's the one I am looking for and now I don't have to look for the photo......

The CS badge was made in Australia by the members of the unit after the war was over according to the Regimental History.....

The CANADIAN SCOUT badge was worn and theater made..... In White Metal and Brass.....

I have the records for all the members......

Mike

Never heard of the Canadian Scouts before.I understand that Australians served in quite a few of the small irregular Boer War units. The Australian War Memorial has a picture of an Australian member of Lumsden's Horse complete with his original hat and shoulder title.
Has anyone ever seen a list of British or other regiments which included a substantial number of Australians?

The Canadian Scouts were raised in the Transvaal upon the 18th of January 1901 for general service in South Africa, in common with a number of other SAMIF formations, they were disbanded in Pretoria on the 30th of June 1902.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this post. It's great to finally be able to identify something you've had for such a long time.

Wondering where it might have been acquired from, I can only guess that it was a local antique shop that often had interesting bits for sale. As to why I bought it....I've no idea!
