Unknown Wolseley Helmet Flash
Hi
I recently bought this helmet, and would very much like to know about the flash. I can't find it in my books or on the net. I think the metal part perhaps could be a very stylized British India? The helmet has a Hawkes & Co. stamp in the dome, og a stamp on the headband saying "Made for Whiteaway Landlaw & Co. Ltd.". I would Guess it is pre WW2, perhaps from the 1920's or 1930's. There is a few writings inside, but the only half-readable is the one I have a Picture of below. I could read "37 KAR 1433 (?)2(?) R.B" It could be that the last part is "12th R.B." or "2nd R.B."? Anyone who know something about the flash and time periode? Best Regards Alfonsoer |

3 Kings African Rifles (Kenya) I think.
They wore a red backing although I can't remember the metal insignia (which I think is shown in one of those little pamphlets on badges published during WWII amongst other publications). The writing inside is 3 KAR rather than 3/7 KAR? Saw it up for sale a few days ago. I think the metal badge is right - a number "3"? Last edited by leigh kitchen; 05-05-18 at 08:19 PM. |

Thanks to all of you! 3rd King’s African Rifles it is! It will fit right in with my KAR Fez!
I misspelled the maker of the helmet, by the way. It is Whiteaway Laidlaw & Co Ltd., apparantly an India-based warehouse chain. So the helmet has been traveling a bit before ending up here in Norway ⛄️. I am not able to find a definite end-date of this firm, so I am still dating the helmet to the 20’s or 30’s. I’m not sure if ww1 is out of the question, but the gut feeling says no. Thanks again! Alfonsoer Last edited by Alfonsoer; 15-05-18 at 06:10 PM. |
