Default 5th (Administrative) Btn, Cheshire Rifle Volunteers?

Having recently accidentally purchased a button to this battalion I now seem to have purchased a badge with a nearly identical design in a job lot.

I am not sure if the badge is genuine or not but it seems to have the fittings of an early 20th century officer's cap badge, having a loop and a flat projection that fitted into a slot.

I cannot find this badge in K&K and would be very happy if someone could positively identify it for me.

Peter Brydon appears to have had a similar badge in his collection. See the photograph in Post 4 of this thread.

Simon,

thank you for the clarification, it is appreciated. It came in a job lot of Indian badges and I suspect that it was mistaken for a 5th Mahratta Light Infantry badge.

Simon.

Simon,

I also recall it being worn by the 5th (Callington) Cornwall RVC.

If someone has the 2 Cornwall badge booklets by I. Thomas they may be able to confirm that.

best wishes

Default 5th (Callington) Cornwall RVC.

As on page 57 of "Military Insignia of Cornwall" by D. Endean Ivall and Charles Thomas, both badge and button of the 5th (Callington) Cornwall RVC.
