Sorry no one has come forward yet - an expert on airborne is required, and I am not that person.

It looks worn and the end price will be interesting.

As with any purchase, it is prudent to exercise judgement ... no doubt that is why you sought comments through the Forum.

Good luck with it, and best wishes for a successful auction, to all concerned.

Hopefully not to confuse things but Edwards and Langley 'British Army Proficiency Badges' only note the usual pattern 2nd Glider Pilot Badge (item 94) with circle rather than wreath around the G.

They also note - "Not to be confused with the Air Training Corps gliding badge which has a similar format but rather downswept wings and a white letter 'G'" - Clearly not the badge you illustrate, but noted for interest

Gorgeous wings. I too have a second pilot pair, but only with the circle around the G. I have never seen the wreathed G, or at least noticed one. Perhaps this was added for a Polish glider co-pilot? The Polish added a wreath in the mouth of their jump wings and pilot's wings to signify a combat jump/flight/etc. They were also in the habit of wearing the British equivalent of their own badges on the uniform. I have a nice set of silver Polish glider pilot's wings made in Birmingham in my collection at present, but have never seen a co-pilot/2nd pilot wing for the Poles. Just a thought, but certainly privately made either way. If you wish to sell them, by all means let me know.

Cheers, Jeff

An interesting wing, never seen anything like it. I don't suppose a wartime picture of this pattern being worn is known?

Jeff, I don't think there were any Polish glider pilots.

Private Pilots wings in wreath were discussed here, but pattern does not match

Del,

It's an Indian Air Force glider pilot wing so not British and certainly not GPR.

I believe the IAF only ever built one prototype transport glider, the Hindustan G-1; beyond that, there were two types of training glider that saw service in the 1960s and 1970s. I suspect that the wing was worn by pilots of the latter.

Here's a pic of another I found in my archives.

Andy.

p.s, hope all my friends here are ok; going through some tough times at present hence the "radio silence".
