WW2 Kriegsmarine pocket watches on eBay
Hello everyone,
Those of you who occasionally browse eBay, probably have noticed that there are a couple of sellers that for the last several years have been putting up for auction "original" inscribed pocket watches that have allegedly belonged to various u-boat captains. I personally don't collect watches, but it had my curiosity.
The research behind it in the item description is top notch, very high value production overall. A lot of detail, to the untrained eye looks shiny and appealing.
However, I do find it, shall we say, suspect that the same seller would continuously churn out an endless output of original pocket watches belonging to u boat captains. What's more amazing is that every watch sells in the high hundreds of dollars, every time. Low enough to not be genuine, but definitely high enough to make the seller a profit.
I've notified eBay a couple of times but they really don't seem to care about it unless there's a big corporate logo on it.
It reminds me of that old line - if you can't spot the sucker in the room, it's you.
