Smile Trooping the Colour

Well there could be worse ways to spend 24 hours in London apart from work - popped along to watch a bit of the Trooping of the Colour, 1st Battalion Welsh Guards centenary. Was just past the Royal Marines monument outside the Institute for Contemporary Arts. Thoroughly enjoyed what I could see and watching the rest at airport.

To what regiment does the chap striding across the road belong - red stripe down his trousers?

Cheers Dean.

Can't tell from the photograph. He could be an RSM, maybe something to do with the King's Troop, RHA, but I would have thought he would have been wearing a forage cap. It's a dark beret, which looks blue, not black, so not part of the Royal Armoured Corps (Cavalry regiments). The badge looks large, so it could be something to do with the RA or RHA.

A few years ago my wife and I did the same thing and watched the parade from the Mall when the Coldstream Guards colours were being trooped. Got lots of good pictures.

He is an official (Army) photographer, possibly R.L.C.

Ah, wondered about RLC because of the beret.
Would the occasion not merit a cap from the pool? I suppose that would be less practical than the beret for a Phot.

Is that a swagger stick or a tripod he's carrying? If the former, wouldn't it get in the way?

How many people spotted the Welsh Guardsman without a bayonet fitted ? I would imagine he's not a happy bunny today.

I would imagine it's the sort off thing Andy would have spotted and he'll be fuming.
