Default Officers silvered Robin Hood Rifles?

Couple of pictures of a badge I have had for many years. The tarnish makes me believe that it is a silvered Robin Hood Rifles. The brass under is beginning to show through so it is a bit thin. Makers marked JR Gaunt London to the reverse. Thanks Matti

Matti,

I seriously doubt that it is an officers abdge as the slider would be very unusual. That type of Gaunt mark is seen on 1940s vintage badges.

It may have been silver or nickel plated at some time but I don't know whether this was official practice or not.

Alan

Default Robin hoods

Thank you for that, this has been a very good forum to join with much interesting detail. I was also after some facts about the Queens Royal Surrey Regiment as I have a bimetal badge with lugs that I picked up as part of a collection and wondered who it was worn by when most of the badges are A/A or of an officers quality. Thank you

Default Robin Hood Rifles

As a supplement to take in the recent post, when the cap badge changed from blackened brass to white metal, many men had their original badges nickel plated - sentimentality and attachment to your 'own' badge. Officers' pattern badges definitely did NOT have sliders. I suspect the 'plated' badge is from the transition period and is probably a much earlier badge. Regards. David

Hi David and Jerry, the info i found was that 6th and 7th Bn. The Sherwood Foresters became the 575 (The Sherwood Foresters) LAA Regt. RA and 350 (The Sherwood Foresters)LAA Regt. RA. This info is for the period mid-60ish.
Hopes this help a bit.
Jo

Hi, I came across this thread on the Robin Hood's and you got me looking at what I thought was suspect one in my set. But I'm hoping with what I read in the initial comment's that it is not one I have to replace. It has a well domed center and what looks like very thin cross banding, and what I think also is crisp detail in the bugle etc.
Anyone want to to just give me a thumbs up and prevent me buying a replacement I don't need......

Cheers

Simon.

Default FS Cap?

Thougt I would tack this on to this thread rather than starting a new one.I bought this as a brooch,On inspection I don`t think its the case. Its die cast,Silver plated. The pic`s don`t do it justice.I think the pin started out life on the badge. So don`t no for certain how it was worn.

Brian Alderson's book quotes the conversion to the w/m badge to be 1940 when they converted to RA.

I look for ones that have the year '02 very snug against the edge of the cross. I think such are good. Regards, Paul.
