Hello David, thanks for the information. It is silver plated and nicely struck in my opinion. When I think of Savile Row, in this case the button makers location, quality tailoring comes to mind.

Just a further thought regarding dates of use. Liverpool Regt had three Vol Bn's but only two of them transferred to the new Territorial Force in 1908, the officers from these two Bn's would have changed from silver to gilt buttons at that time, or soon after. Unusually, the other Vol Bn remained a volunteer unit until it was disbanded in 1920. There is a possibility that the officers of this Bn continued to wear silver buttons until that time, I don't really know for sure. Hawkes & Co were a well known military outfitters of that period and, as you say, Savile Row was the place to be! David

Hi Jack
There are two versions of the QVC button, one with "1661" and the other without. It might just be down to different manufacturers but I think the buttons without the date are earlier than those with the date (these seem to be rarer). As far as I know, all the KC buttons (c.1902-1909) have the date. David

Sorry Andy, I thought you meant the most recent button, this one is WKYC - West Kent Yeomanry Cavalry. It also has a coronet rather than a QVC and I think they were worn until at least 1914, maybe later.
The previous button you are referring to, I think it's an "O", perhaps just shadow on the photo. Maybe Jack can confirm? David If it was "D" rather than "O", the closest known button is QO Dorset Yeo but their buttons didn't have the scalloped pattern and didn't have "The" in the title. Hello
David is quite right about the first Yeomanry button , it is "Oxfordshire". He is also right about the West Kent Yeomanry Cavalry button with coronet which was, I think, used up until 1920 when the regiment amalgamated with the Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles and transferred to the Royal Artillery. Thanks Gent's one and all. The cursive lettering is tough for me to decipher, I had looked at the West Kent for a bit this AM and thought the K was an R. I need to start putting ?'s after my Id's.
