G'day Paul
Welcome to the Forum. What you have here is an Australian , 1930 to 42 period 48th battalion The Torrens Regiment militia hat badge, its South Australian, the Torrens River runs through Adelaide. It looks to be a good original badge and if you are going to collect Aussie battalion hat badges its a good place to start. The collar badges are the same as the centre of the hat badge but not voided and only 30mm high. Regards Phil. |

Thank you for the information. It was buried in a display case, owner said she doesn't even remember putting it in there.
I always dig. |

It was pointed out on another forum the the crown should be pierced as in the pic. Was there manufacturing differences? |

May well be different manufacturers, yours is post December 1939.
in the early 1930s the 48 Bn hat badge was made by S. Schlanck and Co of Adelaide, the collar badges were made by Cole, Bentley and Son of Bourke St, Melbourne. No longer have a list of the badges made by particular manufacturers that was published in 1937 so can't suggest if it changed. Keith |
