19th Native Infantry - Date?
I just acquired a large 4th Gurkha collection - this button was amongst them. I know that the Extra Goorkha Regt became the 19th Regiment, Native Infantry in 1861 before becoming the 4th Goorkha Regt. Is this the correct button for that period? It's 20mm with the makers stamp Gibson McKellar's & Co Calcutta on the rear. I'll probably being moving it on if anyones interested ? Tim

Attached is a button of the 57th Bengal Native Infantry which mutinied in 1857 & was disbanded. It has the same maker as yours [apologies for the poor photos]. The original 19th Bengal Native Infantry also mutinied in 1857 & was disbanded so I'm thinking that your button is for the pre 1857 19th BNI Regiment.

I also doubt this has a 4th GR connection. After all it was only 19th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry for less then a year. Not much time to order buttons and take them into use.
