Liverpool Pals
Hi guys, is this Liverpool Pals Badge an original piece, I've tried comparing it to others and it doesn't seem to have the same sharpness of detail, thanks for your help,

Seems to have lost detail due to polishing.

If buffed a little, does the yellow metal become a very light gold or silver colour?
I ask because I have one that does. |

Mine don't, but then they're lacquered, & I'm not going to going to make any lewd comments re. such items & hand polishing .
I find the colour of the badge I've got a particular shade I've not seen before, just a particularly "silver" or very pale "gold" that I don't associate with brass type metals. Distinctive but difficult to describe & I don't think photos will assist. Last edited by leigh kitchen; 05-11-17 at 12:38 PM. Reason: Added Images |

Oh, are you sure?
The last one of those I saw, was only a few weeks ago, in an old tin, with a trio, an original discharge certificate and a fine pair of shoulder titles, sadly, one broken, but still nice, all in worn condition, the particular soldier was an original and founder member of his battalion. |

This was the first OR cap badge issued in late 1914. It was made by Elkingtons and was 'unofficial' (it is identical to the hall marked silver ones). The first War Office pattern (8520/1915) was issued in late 1915, die struck with loops. A later pattern (9483/1917) was issued in May 1917 - identical to the last but with a slider. Made obsolete in August 1921.
Anyway, perfectly genuine but - as noted by others - very worn. Incidentally the badge was supposed to have a 'bronze' (colour rather than metal) patina. |
