Default Unknown Unit Badge

I got this badge yesterday and was wondering what unit it's for and when it would have been worn.

Was it a general serive badge worn in training or something like that?

Look forward to finding out

Regards, Bill

To further clarify, that was the cap badge worn on the female bowler cap. I can't say when the women stopped wearing the bowler but I haven't seen one worn for quite a while - mid 80s maybe.

Actually that badge is most often seen on the woman’s CF service dress cap, or bowler. Introduced in 1968, but mostly out of service by 1974. I can be seen on other headdresses, including the men’s service dress cap, and the Wolseley during trials for unification.

Bruce, in the black and white image the badge appears to be a enamel/metal badge?

Cloth, the enameled badges never made it past the trial phase. The picture is dated 1971.

Very nice, I have never seen the yellow thread one, but have been looking for one for years. I was told they were done specifically for The Central Band of the CF; but I cannot find a reference for this, just hearsay.

Ok, now it rings a bell. I think I have a couple of these somewhere. I will have to dig them out and put them in their proper place.
CF inisignia is a jungle. A lot of mysteries to be resolved.

Default NOT just a women's bowler badge

As you can see from my previous posts this was not just a women's badge. I have documents that state that Colonels wanted to adopt it instead of their corps or regimental badges.

Default Cloth CF Badge

Yes Colonels may have wanted to adapt it, but did they ever use the badge? From 1978 until the badge was discontinued in the mid-1980s, I only ever saw it used on the CF Woman's Bowler.

No, but the fact that Colonels wanted to adopt it shows that at the time it's not perceived as a women's only badge. That badge was officially discontinued about 1974, although as with most things CF, there are legacy issues. Pictures from CFB Cornwallis around the mid 1970s will show women wearing "cornflakes" (the metal CF badge) or the staff wearing branch badges. The CF bowler was discontinued in 1984 and the "Cap, gabardine" replacing it with the badge clip pre-fixed on the hat. The Cap, gabardine, was replaced within a year (officially) with the bowler (again) in army and air force DEU.

I have a couple of these, but the question comes to mind, how common are these?
