Default Identification needed please

The attached image of a cloth badge was given to me along with some WW2 German badges, however I do not think that this particular badge is German.
Can any Forum member shed any light and identify it for me please?

Thanks

Destro

It is a sign for a mortar so that would be a start.

This is a Canadian patch designating a proficient trained soldier.... I believe it was sometimes called the MARS patch... I'm sure more knowledgable Canadian cloth collectors will have more to say... it's not a rare patch either Jim

Jim, you are right. The Mars patch was worn by trained infantrymen in the Canadian Army during the 2nd WW.It eas worn only in Canada, and as soon as a soldier went overseas it was taken off the uniform. It was worn on the right forearm the arrow pointing inward at a 45 degrees angle.
