5th Mahratta Light Infantry?
I am struggling to identify this button. The figure 5 and the Light Infantry bugle would suggest Mahratta Light Infantry but I cannot connect them with the P.o.W. feathers. It has been suggested that it might have been worn by the Probyn's Horse, (5th King Edward VII's Own Lancers). They had P.o.W. feathers but why would Lancers have a bugle on their buttons?
Any thought please? Last edited by High Wood; 04-01-24 at 07:31 PM. |

Howard Ripley's "Rifle Volunteer Buttons" gives this as 5th Administrative Bn., Cheshire Rifle Volunteers.
