There are no equivalent cadpat versions of the boonie badges and I don't believe there is any intention to have them. With the introduction of Cadpat most of the regimental type trappings were removed. The RCR no longer wear the lanyard for example. There are no cap badges for the wide brimmed soft hat that replaced the boonie cap.

Hi Joe,
Welcome aboard. For those who don't know Joe Costello he is a Cdn Sigs expert and brings a lot of RCCS knowledge to this forum.

No. 5 is Canadian Army General List worn by such folks as Public Relations, Personnel Selection officers, etc. May also have been worn by personnel unallocated to a corps (note the "s" in corps) or regiment.

No. 5 is Canadian Army General List and the metal version of this badge was worn in Cornwallis (in the 70's/80's) and other training bases by new members of the Army that had not qualified to wear their Corps/Regt badge.

Default my only contribution to this post.

Maybe another project to put all these up in a "pinned" and locked reference post.

Here is one from the Irish Regiment of Canada. Truly not a nice looking badge at all.

Cliff, The badge that you have illustrated is the system procured pattern, which was acquired in the early 1990's. There is also the regimentally procured pattern, which was obtained much earlier.

Thanks for that information Bill. I knew there were two different patterns of Bonnie Badges for the Irish but no one in Sudbury seemed to know which was which. It is very nice to finally have this one nailed down.

To date I have not been able to get the other pattern. Actually rather poor on my part, I only yesterday obtained a pair of current issue brass titles for the Regiment.

Where did you locate the iinformation on this boonie badge? If possible, I would like to have a copy for my files. The only records I have found in the National Library and Archives Canada is rather poor when it comes to the Regiment.

Default Irish Regiment boonie badges

Cliff, Here are the three examples of the Irish Regiment boonie cap badges that I have in my collection. You can easily see which one was the regimentally procured pattern.
As to documentation for any badges post 60's, good luck. There seems to have been a change in policy regarding keeping records of authorizations etc. DND Ceremonial approves patterns and seals them, but I have not been able to find any records of purchases etc. You pretty well have to be the person doing the order or be in the unit at the time a badge is acquired to get the provenance on it. I ran into real problems with this issue when I was researching the combat title booklet.
