16th Queens Lancers (QVC)
Hi All
Received my 16thL QVC today, it has some interesting features. Its all good I believe but has had some other bits added. 1. Loops have been filed off 2. A pin has been "skillfully" added, I have tested it in a beret and its pretty secure and could possibly be a pugari pin? 3. The scroll plate has been fixed into the braise holes with small round white metal rods? The plate might have fallen off and its been fixed back in ..... or thats how it was made? 4. Very solid and sturdy badge. I will be cleaning this badge (sorry to the patina lovers) and I will put pics up once this has been done. * As ever, will swap for a Leics Yeo Officers or ORs of equivalent value - or T/Y/LEICESTER Shoulder titles

is it Cap or Collar size? I doubt the pin was intended for Pagri use as the first hurdle or jump it's wearer would have made would have seen it Airborne! The base scroll appears to have been drilled from the front and the remains of nails or panel pins now occupy the holes? Perhaps both adaptations were done by a collector (?) to display the badge? Despite the damage it looks 100% genuine and much nicer than that fake 5th Lancers that was araldited to the hoof! I see the fake 5th Lancers that was supposed to belong to some Irish Geezer did not sell either! Not a shock as it was £80. Best regards Andy |

Its the cap badge Andy, 51mm scroll width and approx 40mm in height.
Not sure about your other comments, the pin is set well with a cut base plate and strong, the top of the base plate has a sharp point and is not fixed down..... so therefore acts as an extra fixing point (preventing up and down movement in cloth). The small metal rods have not deformed the plate front or back (no hammer marks or file marks either)..... might be white braise rod plugs that didn't heat? What ever they are, they are not really visible by the naked eye from the front unless you hold the badge close. The little corners of the scrolls have been braised on though (white braise).

Its had a hard life, I haven't seen a scroll fixed in that manner before either. I doubt if its conversion from loops to pin has any military purpose, but I suggest its possibly a lapel badge. There are many examples of veterans from different Regiments doing this, and I think there has been a few threads on this subject in the past. Regards Rob |

For me it's a nice genuine badge but I'm with Andy on this one Griff sorry mate. I'd say the loops were cut off so it could be mounted on something like a wooden shield, holes drilled & then tacked on to the wood using a punch so the badge itself isn't even touched by a hammer, removed at a later date, pins cut back & a made up pin and plate added to give it a fixing of sorts. I wouldn't want that pin in a beret sticking in my head either
Wilf. I'd say the person who drilled it originally put 3 holes through the sweat hole areas thinking it would do the least damage & wouldn't notice so much with white pins. |

That's OK.... I only gave my guestimate..... I will agree with the collective Hopefully it will receive some experienced TLC to get it back to somewhere near its original state.

I am assuming that this would be a good "donor" badge for my real one?
Its not real is it?
