They are what is commonly referred to as General Service buttons. They were originally adopted in 1872 until 1924 for Other Ranks in lieu of their regimental button. Officers, the Cavalry and most Corps were excluded.
Since yours have the King's or Tudor Crown, they belong to the 1902-1924 period. They remained worn by what was referred to as the General Service Corps and can also be found in a munber of materials such as pressed leather, plastic, white metal, chrome and anodised aluminium for their respective time frames. The button was worn in the Colonies but in different use and not just by the army. Rgds, button_guru ------------------------------- Buttons aren't just a hobby............... |

The first thing to note is that they re not anodised aluminium (ironically A/A General List buttons are scarcer) - but they are very common and not of great value, so you would not realise much for them.
