Unfortunately Chris I think you are correct, I thought initially an unknown arm badge had been found, but I think I can make out the scroll. Anyway a lovely picture,

Here’s an interesting photo of a 6th Inniskilling Corporal taken in India prior to the First World War. Good detail of the arm badge and nice shoulder chains. Bob. |

A very interesting thread and photos indeed. That photo of the "Lance Jack" shows quite an array of badges, all visibly applied with poppers or hooks and eyes to facilitate laundering of the tunic. I assume the swords are for proficiency in that skill.
