Yes, I have those "on file" and keep paper copies with my index of badges in my collection for handy reference.
The articles are typed up on at least one thread on this forum.
There were some books published on the plastic economies including one by Bob Giles but I've never got around to looking for and buying them.

One of the threads - the YouTube video may add more info - if not then it's still useful as a lead into more info. - as said, a primer, I haven't had a chance to watch through it yet but I would imagine it's a useful resource.

Hi all

Looking for some info related to my interest of "on war service" badges, I came across an item from a 1942 New Zealand newspaper.

Hopefully the link works OK, but it basically describes the function and process of manufacture of these badges. Pretty basic stuff but it's often interesting to read contemporary accounts of this type of thing. Well I enjoy it....

One bit that raised a smile was that they said that, having the lugs made as part of the badge, this "saved time on soldering" (or words to that effect)!

Should the link NOT work, just search the site using the key phrase: "Spit and Polish" Goes and the date 1942.

A pleasure. I always enjoy looking for period info on subjects that interest me. You can even find stuff on British topics like the British Legion, etc.

OK, some of the topics had a bit of "spin" to them, but you can still find the level of detail there that wouldn't even rate in a provincial paper today.

For example, if you to search for a topic such as "silver war badge" you can see how the badge was seen at the time by both the ex-servicemen and the general public.
