The attached WW2 SA trade badges may be of interest. Does anybody know if there were others?

Have added some images in an album for some of the South African trade badges worn up to 2006. Some more have been introduced recently but are not shown. Album is at http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...p?albumid=1818

2011 June Museum 67.jpg Hi Dudley, There is a good description and explanation in Curzons second book on these badges. Trade, prize and proficiency badges is a very vast but interesting field and there is still a lot to be learnt with specific reference to those worn by South Africans. There is a clerk badge that I have in my collection which I will post sometime. One of the more interesting badges is an upturned pair of scissors as worn by a military tailor which Curzon refers to in his book. It can be seen in the second photograph in the fifth row in my showcase. I recently spent time in South Africa with a gentleman who is writing a book on Special Service Battalion militaria and he photographed many of my items. Some very interesting items and facts are coming out regarding badges, headgear and uniforms worn by the unit from as to now unpublished original photographs. Regards, Will |
