Price of 45th Bn St George Regiment?
G'day,
Wondering if anyone could give me an average price that I should be looking at paying for a lugged, good conditioned 1930-42 45th Bn St George Regiment hat badge in W/M. Cheers Scotch |

I rate a 45th Battalion hat badge in brass worth around $250-300 or there abouts and maybe a bit more for an oxidised version.
As far as I'm aware, there are no W/M versions. Mick

Maybe I've got the wrong period? the badge is larger than a hat badge so could it possibly be a helmet badge? It would be the right size.

Do you have a picture?
The same badge was worn during the 1930 to 42 period and later between 1948 and 1953. There was only ever a hat and collar badge. They wouldn't have had a helmet plate. Mick

I've only started collecting recently so please excuse the lack of knowledge, I've got a number of resourse books but sadly this one is not one shown. Equally sad is the fact that the badge is a fair distance away. I'm looking at purchasing it off an elderly family member in the near future and want to do the right thing and pay what it is worth. A number of relatives served in the forces over the last century but the relative is a little unsure of the regiments and this I'm just starting to look into. The last time I saw the badge was over 8 years ago, loops on back, silver or W/M in make, approx 10cm or so in height. Maybe I have the wrong reg, but it had St George written on it and deplicted a charging knight. Thanks again Scotch

Does it look like this?
http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ead.php?t=3897 This is a 45th Battalion (St George Regiment) brass hat badge from the 1930 to 42 period. Mick

Not 45th, the owner''s father & brother were in the 45th Bn AIF during WW1 so when ever anything military is mentioned I think she makes this connection.
Contacted family member. The badge is silver/ wm. On the badge is written something along the lines of St George English Rifles, (the writing is clear but not the family members eye sight, bless her sole). Anyway, she is going to send it to me so I'll post a picture when it arrives. Cheers Scotch Last edited by scotch; 23-02-10 at 06:18 AM. |

I know the one - 36th Battalion (The St George English Rifle Regiment) - I think its probably a light brass colour as this badge was only made in brass or oxi according to Jeff Cossum's badge book.
I think its also more scarcer than the 45th Battalion badge. Picture here: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ead.php?t=3478 Mick
