It is a fake I am afraid. there is an original badge and hat in the Glasgow Museum and the w/m badge quality is superb.

Fake as Alan mentioned. This particular badge has been a buggaboo for me for over forty years. I have yet to find one that I am comfortable with commensurate with price.

I don't know if this is true, but I was told by an old collector many years ago that the originals were flat and the ones with the domed centre are all fakes. It is always possible that a soldier might hammer his badge a bit to curve it but I am sure you'd be able to tell the difference between that and one made to be domed.
Can anyone confirm this? Cheers, Alex |

From memory the Boer War era hat in Glasgow Museum was domed.

Awful, very poor modern manufacture, made clear from a glance at the reverse you would not expect loops like those upon any original.
