Hi gents,

I thought I'd post this one that I picked up out of general interest.

If any member would like it for their collection please send me a PM.

Regards

Ry

Hi Ry, what material is it? The slider does not look correct to me. I am sure that it only was made with lugs. I am open to anybody elses comments. Regards Andrew

Hi Andrew,

it is made of brass, the dimensions are 69mm wide, 49mm high and the slider length is 45mm x 6mm at the top.

Never seen one before and only picked it up out of interest to find out about it.
I never considered that it could be a fake, but if it is, it is no great loss, only a few pounds paid.

Ry

Hi Ry, I am not saying that it is fake. I have checked mine they both have lugs. Somebody told me a few years ago that somebody in the UK faked this badge and the South African Dukes badge in the 1970's. Sliders have never been common on SA badges. I just wonder if this may be one of the 1970's fakes. I would appreciate some input from some others. Regards Andrew

Hi Ry, Andrew, and others,
Here is my cast brass version. Were these ever made "in theatre" and worn by the troops? I have other South African in cast brass.
Cheers, Tinto

Many SA units had cast badges made in North Africa during WW2 when their stocks ran out. The badge looks good to me and would fit into that group. Regards Andrew

Hello all
I have one of these badges that I bought with about 25 others and knew nothing about it at the time. I managed to get some information on the Internet but as yet have not dated it. It looks very similar to the ones shown on the thread and is also made of brass and is a light coloured metal. It has lugs rather than the slider. Any information would be appreciated – Regards Alan

Hi Alan, your badge looks good to me. It comes in 2 sizes, about 67mm wide is the cap badge and about 43mm wide is the collar badge. You also get the other collar facing in the other direction. This badge was worn from 1935-64. Regards Andrew

Hello Andrew
Thanks for the information. I have not got the badge on hand at the moment, but I'm sure it would be the larger size from memory.
Regards Alan.
