Large 49th Loyal Edmonton Badge for ID
Hi Forum,
I received around 35 cloth shoulder title badges for Canadian regiments, all removed from uniforms, and all around the WW2 period. This large badge was in with the other shoulder titles, and I wonder what its possible use might have been? You can see it is much bigger than the other cloth badges. Many thanks in advance. Kindest Regards Paul |

Hi Paul, Interesting title. There are any number of possible uses, most likely not official.
(Just a note, the Cdn Scottish title is not Second WW; it is post war, authorized in 1949.)

Very interesting shoulder title. Never seen one before.
The size of it is massive and if sewn on a uniform would pretty near wrap right around the arm. Not very practical. I have been in contact with the Loyal Eddie's museum regarding their shoulder titles, your example was not part of the list of officially approved titles and don't recall your example of title in their collection at all. (But it could be as my inquiry was regarding on official titles and more specifically WWII titles) My opinion is that the title was something made up post WWII for some unknown reason, event or use. Thanks for posting it. Maybe someone one this forum will have more information on it. |

Given the size of it, I wonder if it was for wear on a jacket or regimental sports team shirt/jersey.

It's clearly for an oversized soldier, no question about it...
In all seriousness I asked a friend who collects Loyal Eddy items, he told me that they were made between 10-20 years ago and worn on the back of varsity style jackets. |

Yes for a Varsity Jacket. My father has his from 1965.
