Default Belgium SAS Jacket

Hello Gents,

This is a friend's Post War Belgium SAS Jacket. Can someone provide a timeframe when the jacket would have been worn, what the medal ribbons are and also a rough value for the jacket?

Thanks for any replies.

Paul

Looking at Alan Conradi’s excellent book “Insignia of the Belgian Para-Commandos”, the wings would seem to date from the end of the 1950s and the Pegasus style from the 1970s. The medals might provide a more exact time frame but I can’t help with them.

Note that after 1951 the unit wearing the “winged dagger” is no longer an SAS unit but is simply called the 1st Parachutist Battalion, which is part of the Para-Commando Regiment from 1952, and is trained as a conventional parachute infantry battalion rather than a Special Forces unit. It was only after the recent disbandment of the 1st Parachute Bn in 2011 that allowed the Belgian Special Forces Group to reclaim the winged dagger as its beret badge.

Gents,

Thanks for the great replies and detailed information.

Anyone willing to guess what a fair price would be for this jacket?

Thanks

Paul
