Default Mystery Clan Badge

Hi-
can anyone help me to identify the clan badge on this Glengarry cap?
I'm unsure of the exact origin of the hat, but it came from my grandfather, who's mother (and family) were Glasgow-born.
There seem to be a lot of crests with a lion's head and a fair few with the motto Spero Meliora, but I can't pin down a clan etc with both.
There's a possibility that it could be connected to Stewart, as this name runs through the family (my great-grandmother's maiden name was Stewart!).
Thanks
Lucy

I agree that the motto seems to be for the Moffat Clan, however this doesn't seem to be their crest. Several clans seem to use the same motto.

"Moffat Clan Crest: Issuing from a crest coronet, a cross crosslet fitchee Sable, surmounted by a Saltire Argent".

I was wondering if there is any way of finding out which of the many clans who use this motto, who this is most likely to be.

Also- would this hat only belong to someone who had been in the military, or would this be worn by Scottish civilians too?

Thanks!

You see a ton of these worn by people with no military background when you go to Murrayfield for the Rugby or indeed Hampden with the Tartan Army. Easy to buy and cheap too. As for the clan badge, It is, I'm sure you've googled it, a Lowe or Moffat Motto but with a generic scottish lion head on it. It doesn't match any of the major families or septs.
