Chromed 14/20th?

Was there any time or situation in which the 14/20th Hussars chromed their standard post-1931 eagle cap badges? And no, I'm not referring to the NCO's arm badge; the example I have is a completely untampered-with cap badge with a slider.

They were mechanised as part of the RAC in WW2, and it was common for them to wear their own badge, but chromed.

14th/20th King’s Hussars, served in India, invasion of Persia, remained in the Middle East until the end of 1944, when it went to Italy.

That's an interesting statement could you please given me a reference which eludes to Chrome Cap badges being worn by the 14/20H?

OK understood, no problem. In my experience assumption is the mother of all screw ups, that said, lets have a look at this badge if we can and go from there.
Has any other member come across a Chromed 14/20H Cap Badge?

I've never seen one of these before, I will make some more enquiries and see if I can come up with more info and a firm period of wear

I think you may well be right in your assumptions, having now seen the images I'm inclined to agree. It looks a cracking little badge to me.

Hi. Never seen a chrome cap badge - plenty of chrome arm badges but not cap badges. As far as I am aware 14/20H never wore a chrome cap badge. They were very proud of their brass or black Hawks.

What 'rhussar' has stated is very much in line with my findings having asked around, (collectors, dealers and the museum) nobody has any recollection of a 14/20H Chrome Cap Badge, and I can't find evidence of it being worn.

A couple of theories were muted, firstly it is one of a sample batch? or an individual had a cap badge chromed as 'a Saturday night special' !?
Though IMO both these suggestions are tenuous and probably impossible to substantiate.

So despite this being a nice looking badge, it could well be spurious.

If any further info comes to light I'll post it.

Hi, having chromed badges was not the sole prerogative of RAC units. It was also done by many as a memento or sweethearts badge, so even having an RAC unit badge chromed is in itself not indicative of anything other than some form of decoration, Mike
