Info on this please...I understand it was/is an 'RAC Training Brigade?'
I don't think blue backing is anything to do with it, was worn under a 'Red Triangle' |

Yes, RAC Training Brigade, worn in handed pairs as per images of post WWII 'Greys' Sgts BD. I'm Unaware of any red triangle being worn specifically with them but I will ask Jim Mac when I next speak to him. Regards Rob

According to John Waring (Identification Pamphlet No 1) the three post-War RAC Trg Regts wore a small inverted equilateral triangle in felt - 65 Trg Regt RAC - red, 66 Trg Regt RAC - yellow and 68 Trg Regt RAC - white. This is confirmed in "Badges on Battledress" by Howard Cole (3rd Edition 1953) which adds 67 Trg Regt RAC -blue. I believe the RAC Trg Bde was based at Catterick. Mike

RAC Trg Bde
My favourite image of the period - every detail is correct. The last National Servicemen (most of whom had been "deferred") joined in Aug/Sep 1960.

Brian
The 'Greys' stayed at Catterick (as Mike Suggests) 1957-1958 training recruits. They then returned to Germany, but recruiting in Scotland continued and secured 100 recruits in both 1959 & 1960. In 1961 they toured with a Centurion tank (see image posted below) from recruiting pamphlet of the time, note they/the recruiters are still wearing the training brigade flash. Hope that's of help/interest. Rob

When the wartime RAC Training Regiments were disbanded their place was taken by Regular Regiments such as the Greys as an alternative to disbandment.
When the Regular regiments were recalled to active duty as the postwar BAOR was built up to meet the Soviet threat, their place was taken by the numbered training regiments already mentioned. When National Service ended Regular cavalry regiments were again posted on training duties. The picture shows how the red triangle of 65 Training Regiment was worn. Although made in facing pairs there is photographic evidence that they were not always worn correctly. Jon |
