Andy, That's silver not white metal, if its not what you have described in the op then I'd still like to know what it is if anyone knows other than an oddity.

2nd Royal Surrey Militia, Simon. The regimental title was set on the garter of the cap badge without crown.

I've seen them a couple of times in wm but mine has been brooched and silver, I know there's a couple more knocking around in other collections and unknown to what they are so was pleased to see Andy's op, so if its not as the description what does the badge look like.

I assume it to mean the standard silver and enamel cut rayed cap star worn by NCO's, Warrant officers and Officers in different shapes.
