I can't take credit for this and like alot of the archival evidence on the forum thanks must be for D Linaker and J Bowsher. It records.... 60. KRRC - SP number - 10172. BLK. 10th May 1882. Notes: " Forage Cap in lieu of P9555, small crowned Maltese cross with battle honours on the arms " Pattern 9555 isn't recorded and must refer to the pre 1881 badge. Interestingly on the same date the Home Service Helmet Plate was sealed and then on 3rd Feb 1885 a renewal of the plate is sealed with a notation for scarlet backing, which doesn't prove, though may suggest these first badges of 1882 may have been solid in the centre like alot of the pre 1881 badges. The date for the next forage cap (Glengarry) is 10th Feb 1886. Neil Last edited by Parabellum; 12-06-22 at 09:55 AM. Reason: Typo |

Fascinating. I've never seen a battalion-specific example before.
