WWI, a common form of card with some, such as this being more "desirable" than others because of the unit.
Some had flapped pockets containing a small card.
Many were produced by women in France and Belgium, a form of cottage industry, a roll of the lace mesh would be dropped off at a household, the womenfolk of the house would embroider the designs, the roll would be collected, somebody would then cut it into segments which would be pasted into the cardboard mounts.
Then Tommy would buy them from estaminets or when a seller visited units behind the lines, and post them home to wife or mother, often in an envelope so they weren't damaged.
