Opinions needed on 2 LRDG cap badges

Could I have people's opinions please on the originality of these two LRDG cap badges that were offered recently by Military Antiques Toronto?

I’m no expert but the second badge looks to me like a ‘touching tail’ version which has been given a bit of DIY to free the leg from attaching to the singer and also a foreleg from the rim.

The first badge would appear to be a silver example of the type Nigel Flitter regularly sells on his accounts.

So in a nutshell thumbs down on both from me… but I’m no expert.

The first badge looks like someone has gone over it with a tig welder.

I'm no expert but totally agree - both completely fake.

The HM silver hallmarks are not even readable, on a piece of polished silver two hundred years old one might expect that but on the back of a badge from the mid 20th - very dodgy.

99.9 percent of anything LRDG is fake. This seller is well known for flogging a mixture of overpriced junk as well as overpriced genuine items.

The silver marks are actually copies of Egyptian silver hallmarks, but also just done to deceive in this case.

A friend of mine collects WW2 (deactivated) weapons, especially Thompson sub-machine guns. The last one he purchased recently, when he stripped it for cleaning, had 'LRDG' stamped in the metal hidden by the butt. He isn't interested in it as a possible LRDG weapon as his is obsessed by the Thompson itself as a weapon. But now he's told me about it I would like to know if a LRDG weapon would have been thus stamped?
