Hi Andrew
I have no doubt that the shoulder is c/4/norfolk The silver plate Norfolk badge I have spent some time comparing it to my w/m version they are very close many of the features seem to be the same examples britannia's nose the fork of the trident the way that middle laurel leaf third row up on both sides kicks out at the top the biggest difference is the void between the trident shaft and the left arm which doesn't exist on my example. As to why a silver plate exists if the w/m is 1vb why not silver plate I don't know what pattern officers had I had assumed it would have been a w/m version of the regulars but I have not seen one |

I have one from the same die. it's not a common variation and differs 'from the norm' (finer die details aside) in three immediately distinctive ways: The bend in the olive sprig meeting the laurel wreath, the large circular blow holes and the 'flatness' of the shield. All my other variations, regardless of the die maker, have a 'domed' shield. A good find for your superb Norfolk collection.

Two more happy with the economy seem to think I have seen somewhere about being three variations.
I think the Bimetal is ok but the face is a bit punch like although trident is not square IMG_20210720_174450.jpgIMG_20210720_174459.jpgIMG_20210716_213331.jpgIMG_20210716_213342.jpg |

This type of design features in a thread somewhere on forum, as I recall the design is that of a shoulder belt plate insignia, produced in many variations for use for various purposes.
I have a cast white metal one with lug chopped off and the remains of some kind of right angled bracket fitted. Not the thread I was thinking of, but about the same sort of badge: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...hlight=Norfolk Last edited by leigh kitchen; 11-09-21 at 02:06 PM. Reason: Link added. |
