The yellow and light blue chequerboard were worn on the arms of the Earl of Surrey and currently the Duke of Norfolk and the three lions of England?
I don't know what it is but somebody's fairly sure to. |

It's dawned on me the black and white section of the shield represents ermine, linked in British heraldry to royalty and the peerage.
Thats my knowledge of the subject exhausted. |

It appears that it might be the marriage shield of Princess Beatrice of England and John II, Duke of Brittiany. The odd part is that the wife's arms appear on the dexter (right) side of the shield, which is normally reserved for men, however, her rank may explain this. They were married in 1260.
