Post War Cap Badge...Kings Crown?? - British & Commonwealth Military Badge Forum

I was issued this cap badge back in 1979 (Governor General's Horse Guards)
I always found strange it had a Kings Crown, lugs and is stay-bright ??

Hi 1CanPara, Interesting history. It is not uncommon for it to be some years before a change of crown makes its way through the system, but 26 years is certainly a record.
Your badge appears to be chrome plated. Any chance that this was previously a band badge?
What is the backing material behind the badge? Was it there when you were issued the badge?

Hi Bill,

We were all issued the same cap badge. I don't remember ever having a band.
We were a very small unit at the time. The badge on the left is a war time issue and mine on the right. it's pretty heavy and solid. When they handed them out, we were told to find some type of red paper and fill the center on the back in the middle.

Interesting. A cast kc badge. This was not the method by which kc badges were made. They were die struck. The cast badge must have been a regimental purchase, but when, and why?
There was a badge shop in Stayner until about 3 years ago. There were several of these in the vendor's stock, but I passed on them. They looked like a copy. Now I wish I had picked one up...

Any chance that they were made for The Coronation? There are GGHG collar badges that were apparently made for that event.

You Easterner's are lucky to have capbadges, look at the picture, none of the black hat wearers have a cap badge.

In the SALH we were issued a heavy brass capbadge and it had a cheap slider and would fall out, to buy a new one was around $20.00 back in the day that was a lot of coin (not to mention the crap you would get from the NCO's).

Always hated wearing a helmet! sitting there, hearing yourself breathing in it especially at night. Anyways i'm Irish/Canadian and my head is thicker than a helmet.

Why bother with a cap badge if you don't want to wear the beret correctly? The one gentleman needs to get his badge over his left eye like a proper soldier.

I had it worked out pretty good for combat boots. I'd go to the surplus store in Toronto and get pairs of boots that were totally worn out and my next time on Downsview, London and Borden i'd trade them in for new ones!

Why? I didn't think reservists put enough wear and tear on their boots to need more than they were issued.
