Hi Mike, The bullion wire bull's eye patch is private purchase item. He may have had it before he ended up with the IV PLDG's, or he may have purchased for wear post war. (Piecing his history together from the posts above.) It is not for wear on the battledress, and was likely for his osd or perhaps blue patrols.
The bull's eye was never produced in canvas.

Time to adjust the record. LAC documents dated 1948 indicate the 14 Canadian Hussars were wearing the Bull's Eye patch. There was no clear cut authority for this, BUT, the unit had been granted permission to wear the VIII Recce badges "until after demobilization and reorganization when the unit will be in a position to reconsider this matter. (July 1945). In 1947, a letter from the CO 8 Recce Regiment (14 CH) states I hesitate to suggest any change in the badge, shoulder flashes, etc at present as it is expected that Lt.-Col. J.P. Whyte will be taking over the unit shortly. (June 1947) Finally, the 14 Canadian Hussars cloth title was not approved until 1948, and not acquired until mid 1949.
Some interesting inferences to be taken from this documentation. It appears the 14 CH continued to wear VIII Recce badges into the late 1940's.
