Royal Signals post 1946 on blue cloth backing

You'll probably never find the answer if it was unofficially done unfortunately.......but I wonder if it might have been worn on the 'orrible GS cap ....the khaki beret type thing worn during the war, there are many examples of unofficial coloured backing sworn to the badge to brighten them up.
Here's my REME example, I also have an RAMC version, maybe as blue was the backing colour for pips blue was chosen. The backing plate being perfect for the shape required. But who knows.

Dear Steve.

I must admit on more than one occasion I used my collar dogs as cap badges and put the crown above it.

Many a time I have panicked as having to wear No2 Dress with only one collar dog was a problem.

I remember very well my very first issued Jimmy cap badge only had the back plate that went half the way down the badge. The badge tended to break at the top of the legs I recall. Was a god send when the newer full back plate came into being.

Not likely as the badge wasn't introduced until March 1947.
