For partial close-out.
With Chris' help we have managed to identify that the silver anodized pipers collar badges for no 1 dress (Horizontal) were first authorized for wear on Dec 9th, 1963 (almost 10 years after first sealing) The reasons stated for the approval were; the regiments pipers had a tradition of wearing silver (WM) collar badges, the dies were existing and the amount needed was small. A first issue was authorized (presumably occurred in 1964). This ties in with the information in Edwards noted earlier in the thread in stating that WM were still in use 1962/63. In this case the dies were presumably the ones for the old WM pattern re-purposed for AA. The lack of an existing die may be a main reason that a pipers headdress badge was not issued at public expense - but this is speculation on my part. thank you Chris for your help. John |
