Default 20th London...

Hello All,

Came by this 20th London badge and am a little suspect. Any input? Thanks!

Mark,
it's absolutely fine and nothing to suspect whatsoever!

Hi Andy,

Thanks! Hope it is worth the US$29 I dropped on it!

Mark,

I cannot comment on the badge's genuineness, but do feel the scrolls are a little poorly fashioned.

20th Scrolls.jpg

From your photo:

1) the upper and lower edges of the bottom scroll do not appear to be parallel, varying in width all the way along (green cirlcles).

2) the sections between the upper and lower scrolls (highlighted by red lines) look quite (for want of a better word) 'messy'.

Would this be connected with why you initially felt the badge might be suspect?

That's not to say the badge is not pukka, of course. There are some very good examples in the forum galleries with which to compare:

Mark,
With postage you've probably paid around about its value. As to the previous post, there are several makers variation of this particular badge along with some fakes too! The latest scam appears to be the snapping off of the lower scroll in an attempt to pass it off as a Kent Cyclist or Yeomanry badge, which has caught out quite a few venerable individuals!

Trust my judgement in this particular instance, although it may not be the best of strikings, the slider and it's rough appearance are all good IMO, a 100% genuine one pice construction example!

I rest my case

Andy

you know it's tough to say exactly why I questioned it. I suppose it's one of those things where you just look at a badge and think "hmmm....". Then you look at the slider and it think "wow... no question about that". Maybe it has something to do with jinky lighting? For some reason, taking photos of badges in the men's room of the local bus station seems to be a prerequisite for a lot of folks. o.O

You make a good point; done that many a time myself

Sometimes the other way around too, where the badge looks wonderful but the slider makes your skin crawl

All the best,

N

Thanks, Don. Just got the badge in hand... from the *feel* of it, I'd deduce WW2.
