Default Crossed lances Trade and Skill badge

Does anyone have any information on whether this badge was officially approved? It certainly looks British. I have a lot of trade badges but this is the only lancer badge I have seen and have never seen it illustrated in a book.
Thanks

Default

From at least 1881 [Clothing Regs]. Also with star, and with crown as equivalents to the sword badges and musketry badges. Even with crown and wreath, 1921.

Also produced in bullion, and in drab.

Surprisingly, even in Clothing Regs as late as 1939.

Very complicated history, not fully understood or documented.
